The Combo Guide (Part 1)

The combos... that special characteristic that Arenanet bring it to us on this game. The combo system is a beautiful merge of strategy, timing, cooperative game, and minded game. Lets start with the basics..

What is the Combo System?

The Combos are the result of two skills, one that create a field, and other that finish the combo with an attack. There are nine types of fields, and four types of finishers; so we have 36 different effects.

How do you perform a Combo?

First you (or one of your teammates) have to use a skill that creates a field. This field has a time (not last forever). When the field is active, you can perform a skill that have in the description that is a finisher, and BOOM... You made a combo.

Lets see the combo fields and which skills made them.

Dark Field

You can create a Dark Field using the Shadow Refuge Thief skill; and the Well of CorruptionWell of DarknessWell of Power and the Well of Suffering. All these are Necromancer's skills.
A dark field combined with the combo finishers causes: Blindness (Blast Finisher, and Leap Finisher) and Life Steal (Proyectile Finisher and Whirl Finisher).

Here is a nice video of how the Dark Fields works:

Ethereal Field

You can create an Ethereal Field using the Throw Gunk Thief skill; Chaos StormFeedbackNull Field and Time Warp. All these are Mesmer's skills. And the Necromancer Spectral Wall.
An Ethereal field combined with the combo finishers causes: a Chaos Armor (Blast Finisher, and Leap Finisher) and Confusion (Proyectile Finisher and Whirl Finisher).

Fire Field

You can create an Fire Field using:
Guardian: Purging Flames and Hallowed Ground.
Warrior: Combustive Shot.
Ranger: Bonfire and Flame Trap.
Engineer: Fire Bomb and Napalm.

A Fire field combined with the combo finishers causes: Might (3 stacks) to your allies in an area (Blast Finisher) Fire Shield (Leap Finisher) and Burning (Proyectile Finisher and Whirl Finisher).

Ice Field

You can create an Ice Field using the Launch Ice Mortar Engineer's skill; The Ranger Frost Trap and the Elementalist Frozen Ground
An Ice field combined with the combo finishers causes: a Frost Armor to your allies (Blast Finisher, and Leap Finisher) and Chilled (Proyectile Finisher and Whirl Finisher).

In the next post i am going to comment about the last 5 combo fields Light, Lighting, Poison, Smoke and Water.

See you next time.

Thank you for reading

The Master of Protection

Our second profession to analize is the Guardian, the Master of Protection. The Guardians use their attacks to do damage and to aid and help allies, their skills are a merge of damage and support.

Unique skill: virtues. The guardian have three special skills called virtues ( of Courage; of Justice; of Resolve) that grants continuous boons to himself and allies in a passive way, and do damage to the foes. This skills have to be activated.

The Master of Weaponry

Our first profession to look up is the Warrior. These little guys can use almost every weapon in the game, axes, swords, maces, shields, warhorns, rifles and longbows.

Unique style: the warriors use their adrenaline, builded up thanks of succesfully hits. Their adrenaline can devastate their enemy, with tons of damage.
They also have different stances, that improve temporarily combat skills. Another cool thing that the warriors can use, are the Banners. They can plant them on the battleground giving boons to their allies!

Here is a nice gameplay video of this powerful profession...
